Lions Clubs International
Started in 1917 Lions International is the world’s largest community service club organisation comprising some 1.4 million people across 49,000 clubs in 200+ countries.
Each club is independent, members agree their own set of rules (constitution) which is based broadly on the international organisation’s model.
Each club is free to decide how funds are to be raised and to which worthy causes such funds are donated.
Lions are ordinary people who do extraordinary things to help others and support good causes. Together the British isles and the rest of Europe Lion members volunteered over 500,000 hours of service and raise around £9 million annually to support the needs of local communities across the British Isles and Europe.
Lions enjoy organising remarkable events and memorable fundraising activities. Individually, this commitment amounts to an average of 1 hour a week.
The primary aim of each club is to help their local community. However, small contributions from many thousands of clubs enable the wider organisation through the LIONS Club International Foundation (LCIF) to run projects to alleviate suffering in different parts of the world.
As a member of a Lions Club you become aware of the needs of you community and have the opportunity to make a difference. Each Club provides volunteers with project management experience, leadership training, personal development opportunities and organised fundraising programmes.
Being a LION empowers you to help others in a way that no one person could do alone.
