LIONS CHILD SIGHT UK
Lions across the British Isles have been tasked to continue being Knights of The Blind. We are looking to launch vision screening in schools, through partnership working with Local authorities and Lions clubs.
The project is led by a team of dedicated Lions and supported by Lion members across the British Isles. Backed by local fundraising efforts by the members, and a grant from the Lions Clubs International Foundation, the project now has the resources to scale nationally.
Vision screening is a key part of early detection of eyesight problems.
With children it helps ensure they can receive effective treatment promptly to reduce the risk of loss of sight, completely or partially.
Lions Child Sight UK aims to ensure that children across the UK have access to early vision screenings, especially in schools. By working directly with schools, the program aims to detect potential vision problems at a young age, allowing children to receive the necessary care for optimal development.
Lion Stu Young, vision screening lead, launched Lions Child Sight UK vision screening project on 12th March 2024 at the Lions Day with the United Nations in the Palace of Westminster.

A total of 309 students took part with 14 recommend to see an optician urgently.
Of the 34 staff screened, five were also advised to get further checks.

Lions will receive full training before they can use the cameras for screening.
