Rayleigh Lions have donated £1400 to help Westerings Academy in Hawkwell to create a Zen Den.
Westerings is a primary school enclosed in a woodland setting.
It has two playgrounds, a ‘pirate cove’ play area, mini golf and a wildlife walking space.
Inside school the corridors and classrooms are decorated with different themes including Harry Potter, Alice in Wonderland, and under the sea.
Like many primary schools, with hundreds of excitable young children, it needs a calming area and a safe space.
The Zen Den is available to the whole school, and is also used for SEMH (social, emotional and mental health) and sensory needs.
David Bodimeade, President of Rayleigh Lions said, ‘We are delighted to help Westerings with their Zen Den. It was great to visit the school and see what we funded.
The Zen Den was a really creative use of an area that was two small for a classroom.
We hope many children make great use of it.
